Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) - Mama - Medium - Adult
Mama's Story:

It was on a Friday afternoon, October 5th, 2012... the kids and I were headed the back way to my mom's house (9 miles from our place) and I noticed a red pickup truck pull over to the side of the road by the church & graveyard... I frowned... I immediately thought... 'Great... they're gonna drop off more dogs...' Sigh.... but I was in a hurry and momentarily thought I should go back and get the license plate #... but I didn't... So, after a couple of hours at my mom's... the kids & I headed home... as I approached the church/graveyard... I was not surprised to see... sitting in the road... 2 little dogs... I sighed and immediately pulled over... they were wagging their tails... curious, but unsure... so after a little coaxing... got them in the van... and home we went... they got along great with all the other animals... but my husband was not happy... so, I made a phone call and my cousin agreed to take them. She kept one and re-homed the other one. That weekend was a cold one... rainy, dreary... Monday came and went... then Tuesday.... We missed the school bus... again... and had to chase him down. So, kids safely on the bus... I headed home... less then a block from the church/graveyard... something out of the corner of my eye caught my attention... and I froze... I told myself to keep driving... don't look back Christi... please don't look back... but even as I said those words to myself I was braking and I stopped right in the middle of the road. By then Mama was standing in the middle of the road... just looking at the back of the van. She just looked... I got out of the van and walked back to her... I looked at her and said... 'come on Mama... let's go home...' She followed me to the van... and was so heavy with her load... that I had to carefully pick her up to get her in. I got in the driver's seat... and started to drive home... she laid across the middle console and laid her head on my lap. I just wanted to cry... I knew without a doubt... that this was the mother of the 2 little dogs... I had picked up the previous Friday... and it made me sick that anyone could do that to a poor mama dog. I got her home... and brought her inside... gave her something to eat and some fresh water... I crouched down next to her... and she lifted her right paw to me and rested her head against my leg... my heart broke for this poor little mama. She went into labor, but after awhile, calmed down... it was a few days later that she had the pups... eight of them.
Thanks to OOTW Rescue, Mama is now spayed and came back with a clean bill of health. She is ready for her forever home! Mamma is a Red Heeler mix and would do best in a home where she was the only pet.
