My story
Monica came to OOTW extremely pregnant and only 4 days later, blessed us with 6 happy and healthy babies! All of the babies are now adopted and it's Monica's time to find her forever family.According to the vet, this dog is a Mountain Cur. She has recovered from the birth of her puppies and looks fantastic at 35 pounds. We consider her full grown. She's a beautiful brindle with a splash of white on her chest. She is a low-shedding dog, house broken, and LIVES and LOVES to be outdoors and a fenced yard is a must for this girl. Monica also works great on leash and rides in the car perfectly with no drooling or vomiting. Monica is not crate trained and has no intentions of ever going inside a crate. We are working on her house manners and she's doing very good, especially when she has access to a doggie door. We are very proud of her.A couple of months ago, Monica developed a condition called "masticatory muscle myositis" also known as 3-M. This has caused her to lose muscle mass in her head area and thankfully the foster mom realized it quickly and we were able to get her on treatment before it moved elsewhere in her body. We are hopeful she will where she began losing muscle mass in her head and the foster mom realized quickly something was wrong when Monica suddenly was unable to open her mouth to eat! Since we caught the condition early, treatment was started and Monica has had weekly vet visits and medication Monica is on the road to recovery. Monica had a great checkup on December 11, 2019, and they have cut her meds in half. Her condition may require her to be on medication the rest of her life, OR possibly not. However, if she should need the drugs they would run about $1 a day. So it's definitely doable. ;) Monica, is now spayed, wormed, microchipped, and heartworm tested. Unfortunately, Monica tested light positive for heartworms. Such a young dog to already be infected with heartworms! But it's not a huge deal. We started her on the slow kill method and we expect her to test negative very soon. OOTW will pay to have her retested in a few months.Monica's foster mom is a dog sitter, so there are different dogs coming and going constantly. Monica has gotten along with everyone beautifully. Never a cross word! Honestly, this dog has everything going for her, she's smart and eager to please her master, energetic, walks well on leash and would love to accompany you on your errands or walks. :) Monica also had to recently move in with a new foster mom for a few weeks, where everything was brand new and she adjusted instantly and not one grumble by her to the 7 new dogs in this foster home! She's truly a special little girl!Adoption fee for Monica is $150.
